Description:
Automation Tech I assists in performing a wide variety of duties relative to repair of automated systems. This includes maintaining, diagnosing, and correcting micro-processor functions related to AC and DC motor controls. This also includes automated control systems and associated peripheral equipment providing process control. This individual is responsible for ensuring the safety of self and others, taking necessary precautions for protection of equipment in all work areas, and consistently following prescribed safety procedures and techniques, including good housekeeping practices.
Job duties also include, but are not limited to:
- Assists and performs work on electro/pneumatic/digital/variable frequency drive systems and related equipment, in all work areas.
- Develops control logic for automated systems. This includes PLC, DCS, and variable frequency drive systems.
- Reads and interprets all types of electrical/electronic wiring diagrams and keeps abreast of innovations and new techniques in this specialized field.
- Locates, diagnoses, and corrects problems in automation control and peripheral systems in the most efficient manner, following manufacturer’s instruction manuals.
- Uses a variety of tools, measuring and test equipment, e.g. amp meters, AC-DC voltmeters, oscilloscopes, digital meters, computer based system interfaces and diagnostics, etc.
- Maintains necessary records and logbook on performance and operation of electronic equipment.
- Assists the Maintenance Electrical & Instrument multicraft Technicians, Automation Technicians II, III, and Automation Engineers as directed.
- Assemble and repair PC based systems and learn related software necessary for process automated equipment.
- Crew assignments and duties may vary at times based on job & skill requirement, as well as available crew personnel to complete the work safely and efficiently.
- Develops necessary documentation for new projects or replaces existing documentation as changes occur.
- Assists with the start-up of new or upgraded systems as needed.
- Attends and participates in the appropriate training for the use of fire extinguishing equipment and notification procedures should a small, containable fire ignite in the work area.
- Performs other comparable or related duties assigned. Works with other crafts and Engineers assigned to work with or assist Process Automation personnel.
