Job Title: Airport Worker 2 – Equipment Mechanic, Powered and Non-Powered
Department: Vehicle Maintenance
Reports To: Supervisor, Vehicle Maintenance
Date: September 2022
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Airport Worker 2, Equipment Mechanic, performs troubleshooting, diagnosis, required repairs and/or overhauls for powered and non-powered vehicles/equipment, and other motorized/non-motorized equipment. Inspects airport fleet vehicles in compliance with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Safety and Emissions Inspection regulations for operation on public roadways on behalf of Harrisburg International Airport.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Ability to perform work semi-independently from supervision while conforming to department standards and policies.
- Responds to emergency airport operations pertaining to equipment operation, equipment failure, or crisis situations.
- Repairs or replaces items such as engine component parts; electrical system wiring/components; fuel system components; braking system components; tires and wheel assemblies; and hydraulic system components. Repairs or replaces accessories such as, but not limited to lights, radios, air conditioning, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
- Performs necessary adjustments and corrections to same items as listed previously.
- Fabricates or repairs miscellaneous metal components by reforming, repairing, or replacing through use of welding (MIG, ARC, GAS) equipment and cutting devices such as air arc, torch, and plasma cutting equipment in conjunction with sawing apparatus.
- Performs State Certified Vehicle Safety Inspections and State Certified Vehicle Emission Inspections of vehicles as required by PA DOT for access to public roadways, issues proper documents and certificates (stickers), and maintains official log.
- Supply ample personal hand tools needed for mechanical repair duties. (Special tooling to be determined and supplied by the company).
- Must possess and demonstrate at least basic knowledge of automotive electronic control systems.
- Uses electronic and mechanical test equipment for diagnosing of vehicles and equipment to determine malfunction or preventative maintenance requirement.
- Able to read schematic diagrams for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in conjunctions with troubleshooting those same systems.
- Plans work procedures for overall efficiency of work flow.
- Makes recommendations to Supervisor for training opportunities as it applies to position to foster personal growth within department and company.
- Performs other duties or assignments delegated by proper authority.
SUPERVISION:
The Airport Worker 2, Equipment Mechanic, temporarily assumes responsibility for the shop area, when requested, and in the absence of Department Supervisor and Lead Technician.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year certificate from an accredited college or technical school and two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must be able to pass FAA required training.
- Must have basic experience in automotive electronics and or hydraulics.
Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:
- Valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record or ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date.
- Obtain and maintain the proper Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) certification for vehicles operated and requiring State Safety Inspection.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation in order to be issued Airport Identification Badge.
- Valid Commonwealth of PA State Safety Inspection License and PA State Emission Inspector License.
- Certificate from Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) or obtain the certification and certificate within 30 days of hire date.
